LinkUp Australia

Linkup Australia began services in May 2018 and is a respected provider of NDIS disability services. Our organisation was established in response to the lack of suitably accessible housing and the limited choice of flexible, person-centred supports for people living with disability in the Northern Territory.

Our mission at Linkup Australia is to help people to live more independently by designing and delivering quality and innovative services that respond to the needs of the diverse communities we work with.
Our vision is that every Australian has every opportunity to live their best life, their way. We work towards our vision every day and do so through our complimentary and NDIS-funded disability services.

Distinguished and Famous people from Brighton

Brighton's history includes people whose homes, community work and public offices were closely tied to the coast. Exploration attracted the headlines, but local welfare work and an early advance in women's representation also deserve a place.

🔬 Sir Douglas Mawson

Antarctic explorer and geologist Douglas Mawson made his family home at Jerbii, in King Street, Brighton. His local connection was strengthened through his marriage to Paquita Delprat, whose family also lived in Brighton. The house became his home away from university work and polar expeditions, and he died there in 1958. His state funeral was held at St Jude's Church, Brighton, where he and Paquita are buried. The home itself was later demolished, but local memorials preserve the connection between the coastal suburb and his much wider scientific career.

🤝 Lady Paquita Mawson

Paquita Mawson, born Francisca Delprat, was a Brighton local who supported refugees, mothers and babies through her community work. Holdfast Bay's historical account recognises her as a leading local figure in her own right. She received an OBE in 1951 and was also honoured by the Netherlands through the Order of Orange-Nassau. The shared home at Jerbii connects both Mawsons with Brighton; Paquita's work was particularly rooted in the welfare needs of its community.

🏛️ Susan Grace Benny

Grace Benny joined Brighton Council on 22 December 1919 as a representative of its new Seacliff ward, becoming Australia's first woman member of a local government council. Her appointment followed nomination by the Seacliff Progress Association and a petition from ratepayers; it was an appointment, rather than a contested election victory. Already active in local wartime and community organisations, she sought to bring women's concerns into municipal decision-making. She served two terms. Her link is with the historic Brighton council area and Seacliff, rather than a claim that she was born in Brighton.
